Honda used to have such nice clean design. Part of the reason I always loved MonkeyPuzzle’s Honda despite being a fairly staunch 1960's believer. The new Type-R will age poorly. No purity, no restraint, no class.

they all ended up looking like the new one anyways, might as well cut out the middle man.

The time it left the factory was the last time it looked like that.

Late 90s Honda knew what they were doing.

I couldn’t agree more. It’s the same problem that the c7 corvette will have.

I kinda want it but I wouldn’t subject it to Toronto winters so it would have limited use to me.

Totally. The C6 is such a more restrained, clean design. I think it will age well, like the NSX.

The C5 will age even better because it has popup headlamps.

Absolutely agree. The C6 is a future classic.

I still think the best-looking Type-R was the FN2. Far from the best to drive, however.
In truth, though, I don’t really mind the ridiculousness of this new one--I like a heaping helping of immaturity from time to time. Still wish the nutty wing/light cluster combo from the FK2's concept had made production:

Counterpoint:
A hot hatch should look wild. If you want a clean sports car, get a Genesis or a Nissan Z.

The pop up headlights are great. But, the C5 is too much of a victim of 90s “jelly bean” design.

I absolutely agree. We just bought a 2013 Civic EX-L (though I had my eye in a 2013 Si, it sold before we could pull the trigger). I think it’s the perfect design blend of new aero and old simplicity. We test drove a 2016, and I absolutely hated it for a lot of reasons, not least of which was that it felt bloated and oversized. It struck me as everything that Honda shouldn’t be. I feel the same way about the 2016 Odyssey. We have a 2003 Oddy (I just put a low mileage engine into it--long story), and I love it. No nonsense, clean lines, timeless.

It’s very ugly, encompasses nothing they made Honda lovers love Honda, it’s clearly geared to attract teens.
I think you combine the poor styling choice with the turbocharged low revving motor and you basically have lost what the type r is, it is concerning honda did not seem to try and preserve this DNA at all, same thing with new NSX.
no thanks

It’s a very nice build but I can’t see a 90s Honda selling for that much without a K series swap.

No single automaker has lost the plot more than Honda. They are lightyears from the core values that made them a success in the past.

EXACTLY. People are all, “Well, Honda fan boys are just going to say it’s ugly.” Because Honda set the bar pretty high a long time ago. When we say we want the global Type R, this is what we mean. Not that new monstrosity. Who can blame us for spending thousands less building a Type R that actually looks good?

i hear g37s fit that bill too...
hot hatches are supposed to be a bit bonkers...
as if the FiST or the FoST are any better design wise...
